About the journal

Economic and Regional Policy Interactions is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes theoretical and empirical research, and review articles, building bridges between the pillars of modern economics and regional economics. The journal is owned and governed by the Society for Economic and Regional Policy Interactions.

The journal serves scholars, practitioners and policymakers who use the principles of both disciplines to answer policy-relevant questions. Authors should refer to the Aims and Scope of the journal before deciding whether to submit a manuscript.

Aims and scope

The journal welcomes contributions that connect macroeconomic theory, spatial and regional analysis, and applied policy. In every paper, a meaningful balance between the description of the technique of analysis and the relevance of the policy implications is essential.

The analytical instruments proposed should, wherever possible, be empirically validated on the basis of replicable data, and should take into account the interdependence of economic phenomena over time, across countries, and across sectors and regions. We particularly encourage work on:

  • Regional dimensions of macroeconomic and development policy;
  • Spatial economics, agglomeration, and regional disparities;
  • Trade, migration, and inter-regional spillovers;
  • Fiscal, monetary, and structural policy across regions;
  • Empirical evaluation of place-based and regional interventions.

Scope is illustrative and will be finalised with the editorial board. If you are unsure whether your work falls within scope, contact the editorial office before submitting.

Before you begin

Originality and concurrent submission

Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published previously (except as an abstract, a published lecture, or a working paper), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and that its publication is approved by all authors and, tacitly or explicitly, by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out.

Authorship

All persons designated as authors should qualify for authorship, and all those who qualify should be listed. Each author should have participated sufficiently in the work to take public responsibility for the content. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all named authors approve the submitted version.

Declaration of competing interests

All authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organisations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. If there are none, please state so explicitly in the cover letter.

Use of generative AI

Authors must disclose any use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process. AI tools must not be listed as an author or co-author. Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, including any portion produced with the assistance of such tools.

Ethics in publishing

The journal follows the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). A public Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement covers authorship, competing interests, corrections, retractions, and complaints.

All manuscripts are screened with recognised similarity-detection software before review. Submissions are evaluated through double-anonymized peer review: each manuscript is first screened editorially and then, if suitable, sent to at least two independent expert reviewers, with author and reviewer identities mutually concealed.

Preparation

File format

Manuscripts may be submitted as PDF or Microsoft Word (DOCX) files, up to 25 MB. Use a single column layout, 1.5 or double line spacing, a legible 11–12 pt serif font, and continuous line numbering to assist reviewers.

Anonymisation

Because review is double-anonymized, the manuscript file must not contain author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, or self-identifying references. Provide all identifying information through the submission form and cover letter only.

Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear, scholarly English. Authors who are not confident in their written English are encouraged to have the manuscript edited before submission.

Manuscript structure

  1. Title. Concise and informative; avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible.
  2. Abstract. A self-contained summary of 250–350 words stating the question, the method, the principal results, and the policy implications.
  3. Keywords and JEL codes. Provide up to six keywords and the relevant JEL classification codes.
  4. Introduction. State the objectives and provide adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey.
  5. Methods / model. Describe the technique of analysis in sufficient detail to allow the work to be reproduced.
  6. Data. Identify the data sources and, wherever possible, make replicable data and code available.
  7. Results. Present results clearly and concisely.
  8. Discussion and policy implications. Draw out the relevance of the findings for policy, maintaining the balance between technique and implication.
  9. Conclusions. The main conclusions may be presented in a short standalone section.
  10. References. See below.

Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively, cited in the text, and supplied with concise, self-explanatory captions.

References

References should follow the APA 7th edition or Chicago author–date style, applied consistently throughout. Ensure that every reference cited in the text is present in the reference list and vice versa. Where available, include DOIs.

Examples (author–date):

  • Krugman, P. (1991). Increasing returns and economic geography. Journal of Political Economy, 99(3), 483–499.
  • Barro, R. J., & Sala-i-Martin, X. (2004). Economic growth (2nd ed.). MIT Press.

Submission

All manuscripts are submitted online through the journal's submission system. There is no need to post a hard copy. On submission you will provide the manuscript file together with the title, author list, manuscript type, abstract, keywords, and the corresponding author's name, email and institution.

The corresponding author's email is used solely by the editorial office to manage the review process; it is never displayed publicly. On submission the success screen shows a unique reference of the form ERPI-2026-00001 (year and a per-year sequence) — please save it and quote it in any correspondence.

The editorial office contacts authors directly by email; we do not send automated confirmation emails. You can check the status of your manuscript at any time, without logging in, at /track using your reference and the corresponding author's email. For other queries, please use the contact form.

After acceptance

Upon acceptance of an article, the author(s) will be asked to complete a publishing agreement with the Society. Articles are published open access under a CC BY 4.0 licence, allowing reuse with attribution; authors retain copyright in their work. No article processing charges (APCs) apply during the journal's inaugural period.

Accepted articles are copy-edited and typeset, assigned a permanent DOI, and accompanied by complete metadata, an English abstract, and JEL codes to maximise discoverability. The corresponding author will receive proofs for a final check before publication.
